How TMNG Global became a Leading Mobile Virtual Network Enabler (MVNE)
Deep industry experience in the wireless industry has positioned TMNG Global as a vital resource for any entity pursuing a role in providing mobile services, from MVNOs (Mobile Virtual Network Operators) to network-based providers.
TMNG Global’s capabilities extend across every aspect of mobile strategy, planning and operations, including business case and wireless carrier selection and negotiation; BSS/OSS planning, development, execution and evolution; customer service management; handset supply and fulfillment; and much more. This expertise rests not only on TMNG Global’s long-standing role as a supplier of professional support services to the telecommunications industry, but also stems from its direct hands-on experience as both a Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) and as a Mobile Virtual Network Enabler (MVNE), where the company built end-to-end operating systems through integration of products and services from multiple vendor partners.
TMNG Global is well positioned to provide mission-critical support in virtually any type of wireless business scenario:
- Companies not accustomed to providing network services who want to offer a branded mobile service to a specific type of clientele may require a full slate of strategy, planning and ongoing end-to-end business and operations support.
- In other MVNO scenarios, a network service provider, such as a cable operator, may simply need help with mobile-related planning and with implementing and integrating new mobile-specific operations components into the service provider’s existing operations support environment.
- Companies wishing to get into the business by building their own mobile networks may need help with planning a fully integrated end-to-end operating system and assistance with finding and evaluating suppliers.
- Established mobile operators frequently require assistance in overcoming barriers to operations efficiency; converging back-office systems with other network services; consolidating and coordinating network operations management; implementing and integrating new OSS elements tied to new generations of mobile services; and other similar challenges.
TMNG Global is uniquely qualified to deliver unparalleled support with these challenges because its experience in mobile goes well beyond the typical qualifications of consulting firms. Unlike these entities, TMNG Global has operated its own mobile services network and gained invaluable experience as an MVNE assisting MVNOs with customer support, marketing, billing administration, and other key aspects of mobile operations.
TMNG Global’s Experience as a Network Operator
Prior to 2000, TMNG Global had long offered its comprehensive portfolio of consulting services to mobile operators as part of its established mobile practice. But, in 2000, the company stepped up its engagement by entering into a partnership to operate a wireless network and applications testing laboratory in La Jolla, California. The partnership was licensed by the FCC to operate two separate networks, one based on CDMA, the other on GSM technology, as real-world test beds where software and hardware suppliers could demonstrate their value propositions to mobile operators.
The company collaborated with these wireless clients to introduce cutting-edge technologies, such as location-based services, over-the-air service activation, and other applications that could not readily be tested over commercially-operating networks. Today, these types of applications are commonplace in mobile, but at the time these were breakthrough developments which TMNG Global helped introduce to the wireless industry. By creating the backend billing and service provisioning mechanisms, together with a testing environment with interfaces that allowed third parties to fully integrate their applications with the networks, TMNG Global acquired the in-house expertise that would allow it to play a significant role as an MVNE in subsequent years.
