2011 Year-End Thoughts on the US and Global Communications & Media Industries
While Western economies caught a slight cold in the second half of 2011 due to ongoing debt problems in the US and Europe, the communications, technology, and media sector survived the year with a sound bill of health. In the US, growth was steady if not spectacular on the back of strong demand for new services and devices. The US TMT sector has seemingly decoupled from the wider economy – for now.
But no one, even prize patient Apple, is inoculated against the rapid changes in the industry. In 2011, companies across the sector took bold measures to better position themselves to profit from changing consumer and business behavior.
