Migrating Existing IT Systems and Technologies: Always a Challenge

Long before cloud computing was a concept, enterprises and service providers have grappled with the difficulty of transitioning an existing infrastructure from one platform to another. The complexity of any IT project stems from the breadth of technical, functional, and business areas that are impacted and that must be analyzed and managed. There are also organizational and cultural impacts that can become huge impediments to a successful migration if they are not acknowledged, understood and managed effectively.

Such failures are undoubtedly deeply seared in the corporate psyche of many businesses, contributing to a hesitancy when contemplating the next big transition, such as cloud computing.
